Move over Soprano’s, Look Whose in Town

Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year. Maybe it’s the hidden witch in me, or the changing of seasons, and the brilliant colors it brings. Maybe it’s the cool, crisp weather. I don’t know, but I love autumn and Halloween.

Just about every year, me and my boys enter our local Halloween contest. In the past, we took home 1st place for the best group. I was Princess Leia, my oldest was Luke Skywalker, and my youngest was Darth Vader. We were Little Red Riding Hoods gang, Star Wars ,The Phantom Menace characters, Napoleon Dynamite, Lego’s and my youngest won the Grand Prize one year; he was Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean.

And Saturday Oct 20, 2007, turned out to be a fun day. We entered our local area Halloween Costume Contest again and we looked pretty good I have say. We were the Italian mob, and took home second prize for the best group.whole_gang2.JPG

I might add, I look better as a female. My son’s girlfriend made a lovely flapper. The boys looked dashing in their gangster attire.

I am thinking about next years costume already; maybe the Adams Family.

I always wondered were the ideas of costumes come from, so I did a little research on the subject. It turns out that dressing in costumes was to scare away evil spirits on Oct. 31; that was the day spirits of those who died throughout the year were permitted come back to possess the souls of the living, creepy stuff.

About Mom’s Soap Box

Moms Soapbox is a forum for all of the fantastically ridiculous issues that face Moms (and Dads) in today's world of information overload and endless checklists on how to be the perfect parent. My intention is to break some stereotypes about what a Mother should be and share with my readers the experiences I have had in raising my two teenage sons while trying to juggle graduate school, a house full of responsibilities and a desire to go with my gut when it comes to parenting. My hope is to show that you can be comfortable enough with yourself and your family to show the world that it isn't a competition but rather a journey to learn and laugh as much as possible
