What’s Wrong With This World

Yesterday I posted a U-Tube video showing what 11 year old girls are watching on the web. I was appalled, disgusted and angry. I never thought I would go and watch what the girls were talking about. But curiosity got the best of me. I went to the cite they mentioned in the video.

What is wrong with this world I wondered as I went and washed my hands after watching the video? Somehow I thought that would wash the images from my mind, but of course it did not.

While I was driving my son’s home from school I asked my oldest if he read my blog like he always does. He said ya. I waited till we were home and as he climbed the stairs to change into his work-out clothes I asked he if watched the video and he said no; I continued to press him for information. I asked him if he ever heard the web cite the girls in the video were talking about.

He started to laugh, and say that he has seen it a while ago!!! And that it’s been going around the web for quite some time.

He is 18, when in the world did he see it? Is this the kind of evil 11 year old’s for that matter any minor is watching on the web? Maybe the internet is an- instrument of perversion, and disgust rather than a vessel for valuable information.

It’s too late to protect my kids from this, but not too late for younger more innocent children. If I could do it all again I would never bring a computer in my home for my children to use.

If I did they would be protected from this kind of material from the beginning. I would use Content Watch or Cyber Sitter from the moment I turned it on.

About Mom’s Soap Box

Moms Soapbox is a forum for all of the fantastically ridiculous issues that face Moms (and Dads) in today's world of information overload and endless checklists on how to be the perfect parent. My intention is to break some stereotypes about what a Mother should be and share with my readers the experiences I have had in raising my two teenage sons while trying to juggle graduate school, a house full of responsibilities and a desire to go with my gut when it comes to parenting. My hope is to show that you can be comfortable enough with yourself and your family to show the world that it isn't a competition but rather a journey to learn and laugh as much as possible
